Positive Parenting; A Rare Skill

Parenting is a job that every parent is assigned to do by default in order to raise their children. Though parenting is done by all parents, can that be considered as proper parenting? In my opinion, effective parenting skills are something that is rarely seen in our society.
Parenting in Bangladeshi Households
The concept of parenting is majorly misunderstood by the Bangladeshis, mostly by the elder generation. Parents should prepare their children for independence. They should make them ready for the world and their main task should be to let them know what is wrong and what isn't.
But Bangladeshi parents think about it in a different way. They undoubtedly want the best for their children but they don't apply the right technique for that to happen. To discipline their children most of them choose the way they think that would be good for their child but they don't want to understand what their child might want.
Every child is different. Every child is special in their own way. They need to be guided properly and in order to do that they need positive parenting.
What is Positive Parenting?
The key to positive parenting would be understanding the child first. Next, suitable guidance has to be provided according to the child’s nature.
My Take on Proper Parenting
Several articles on parenting can be found on the internet, but you don't need them if you just try communicating with your child and try understanding them. Those who can become their child’s friend first, can proceed to be a better parent.
Another effective tip for the parents would be to try and see every situation from the child’s point of view. That way they can see how their children see the world and how they judge everything.
It is universally known that humans tend to do what is forbidden for them. So, instead of telling “do this” or “don't do that” , parents should let them know “it is wrong and for this reason”, then let them justify their own actions. Another truth is that, people learn best from their mistakes, which should also be applicable for the children.
Teenagers are known as the rebels in the life cycle. They tend to make their own choices at that age and apparently parents don't let them, so the clash begins. They start rebelling against them and parents start being more and more strict. But these actions of both sides are not healthy, whereas it affects their relationship negatively.
During the time of puberty, various emotions are faced by the teens and all are new to them. They struggle to find their own self and they need proper guidance at that time. If the parents become their friends, they would open up about the turmoil they feel and the parents would be able to help them accordingly.
Some common complaints about parents
These traits indeed showcase the wrong way of parenting. By avoiding these, positive parenting can be done successfully. There are several more ways and techniques of developing parenting skills but let's all just start with these and see the results. This is an invitation for all the parents to acknowledge their child for what they are and guide them accordingly.
